Why buy smart lock and a smart doorbell when you can get a door that does it all?
Over in Vegas at CES 2022, door maker Masonite has taken the covers off if its new Masonite M-Pwr Smart Doors; exterior doors for homes that incorporate smart lights, a video doorbell and a smart lock into one entrance-securing device.
If you’ve been put off by the idea of connecting up a collection of different systems and units, then this all-in-one door might be for you.
It connects to your home power and Wi-Fi, and integrates a Ring Peephole video doorbell and a Yale Assure smart lock – which won’t require their own separate batteries – plus motion-activated welcome lighting and an emergency backup battery.
This can sustain power to the door for up to 24 hours, in the event of a power cut.
“The debut of Masonite M-Pwr Smart Doors is a milestone event in that we believe it will fundamentally change homeowners’ expectations of their exterior doors,” said Howard Heckes, CEO of Masonite.
Owners will be able to remotely control and program the LED lighting from a smartphone app, as well as confirm whether the door is open or closed, offering peace of mind when away from home – or even just upstairs.
And if you’re imagining a clunky sci-fi door that will upset the neighbors, don’t worry – the doors are made in a premium fiberglass and you can choose from a variety of styles, colors and finishes.
There are no prices announced yet, but the smart doors are now being offered in new home construction by Barringer Homes in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, with additional builder partner announcements expected later this year.
