After a year and a half outage, Google’s decision to limit how its Nest thermostats work with other devices has come to an end. Now products such as the all-in-one control system, Brilliant, and other smart home brands, are reconnecting to Nest.
Brilliant says that its customers will again be able to control their Google Nest thermostats via the Brilliant Control or Brilliant mobile app. This move signals a major step forward for the smart home community, and users can expect to see Google Cam and Hello integrations with Brilliant coming soon.

Google is now allowing third-party devices to integrate with Nest products once again. About 50 percent of Brilliant users were connected at the time when Google Nest ended their “Works with Nest” program. Although those users were able to keep their connection, no new Brilliant users could adopt Nest thermostats as part of their Brilliant home.
Brilliant is a smart home control panel that replaces a traditional light switch. There’s no additional wiring or hubs required, making it a practical and straightforward upgrade for every home.
The Brilliant system works with more than 20 of the top smart home brands in every category, such as Sonos, Ring, Schlage, and now Nest. They come in multiple sizes, replacing single-gang to four-gang light switch panels. Each Brilliant Control features a touch screen, dimmers, a built-in camera, and a privacy shutter.
In 2019 the company launched the Brilliant Smart Dimmer Switch and Brilliant Plug to create an entire Brilliant Smart Home ecosystem. The Brilliant Smart Dimmer Switch replaces a single light switch and does not have a screen, making it a more simple and affordable way to put smart lighting throughout the home.
Brilliant works with top-100 builders, such as The New Home Company, Ashton Woods, and Pacesetter.
