When it comes to robot vacuums, we’ve encountered a few of them in the past. However, I believe that the Roidmi Eve Plus is currently the best one that I’ve tried so far, as it comes with a balance between performance, features, and most importantly – the price.
And the charging station also acts as a dust collector for much easy cleaning too!
Unboxing
Inside the box, it comes with a lot of stuff. Of course, we have the usual – the robot vacuum itself, the charging station, but we also get a pack of disposable mops (there is another cloth mop included), an air filter for the robot vacuum, and a few more bags for the charging station.
It’s really nice to see Roidmi including all of these in the package too, as we’ll definitely need this in the future. When we eventually run out of replacement parts or if they’re worn out, Roidmi also made these parts for sale on their official Shopee store.
The robot vacuum itself
This is the one thing that I really want to highlight more about. The robot vacuum comes with a bunch of useful features that anyone can just buy, plug it in and use it right away. However, being the engineering nerd that I am, I can’t help but appreciate the technology that went into creating the Roidmi Eve Plus.
You see, we have the basics like a removable dustbin compartment that also doubles as the water tank for the mopping feature (weird combo but okay) and that’s what most people will usually interact with frequently.
What I really like here is the ease of maintenance. Nearly everything that moves can be easily serviced. For example, the aforementioned robot vacuum’s dustbin can easily be taken out and have the filter literally washed. Just remember to dry it before putting back into the vacuum.
Then, the sweepers. These two sweepers are crucial if you want to get a properly cleaned floor. The sweepers extend quite far out beyond the vacuum so that they can even reach the edge of the walls – but they still can’t quite get the sharp 90º corners but I’m okay with that.
Anyway, these sweepers usually will have hair and dust stuck in the drive shaft – the middle part with the screw. But, Roidmi has two different precautions to prevent hair and dust from getting stuck underneath – firstly is a smaller brush to sweep the perimeter, and secondly is that we can remove the screw to take out the sweeper entirely, then we can get full access to the drive shaft. That’s insanely easy to maintain and I truly appreciate that.
Even the roller is easy to clean. Hair can also get to the driveshaft and can cause malfunctions, but this roller can easily be taken out and serviced.
Plus, if the roller got any hair rolled onto itself, you can use the cutter that is placed inside the charging station’s dustbin to cut the hair and ensure the roller works again.
The charging station + dust collector
Yeah, this idea isn’t exactly new but it is certainly a welcomed addition. From what I can find out, the Roidmi Eve Plus can still function normally without the charging station’s dust collector. I mean, we can clean it manually or turn off the charging station’s dust collection in the app too.
The dust collector is pretty simple – there’s a bag slotted into the charging station and it just collects all the dust from the robot vacuum into the charging station for ease of cleaning. It’s using a 3-liter bag, so it can hold up quite a lot of dust, honestly.
There’s also a filter inside the charging station’s dust collector too. Ours fell out during transport but it’s an easy fix.
Using the Roidmi Eve Plus
Since I am already using the Xiaomi Home app for my Yeelight, I can just link the Roidmi Eve Plus with that Xiaomi Home and use it as one of the smart gadgets in my home. You can also choose to use the Roidmi app, if you choose to do so.
The app actually functions just like the Roborock S6 MaxV that I’ve taken a look last time. The interface is pretty much identical but comes with a few more features like the Y-shaped motion to imitate for a person mops the floor.
It does take a little time to fully explore all the features, but for me personally – I just set it to quiet and set the mopping to “small” amounts of water. I am using it on a tile floor so it’s easy for the robot vacuum to clean.
The only words I have to describe the robot vacuum are “fast” and “precise”. Seriously, this robot vacuum zoomed across the living room, the kitchen, a bedroom, and a hallway while turning precise corners and also slipping through gaps that barely fit through. This robot vacuum can do everything in just about half an hour.
Once the cleaning is done, it will go back to the docking station, empties itself into the charging station’s dustbin, and starts charging itself.
Of course, it won’t be that fast or efficient when it moves for the first time because it needs to learn your floor plan first. I gotta admit, this robot vacuum’s 3D TOF sensors do a really good job at precisely detecting the walls and furniture.
Then, we can start to draw no-go zones and virtual walls to prevent the robot vacuum from going anywhere that we don’t want it to go.
And this robot is so smart that it can automatically detect rooms and label them in the app!
Spot cleaning is also easy as we can draw an area in the app and ask the robot vacuum to clean that area specifically.
This Roidmi Eve Plus can also technically save different floors so we can take it upstairs to clean – but I’m just too lazy for that.
Should you buy the Roidmi Eve Plus?
Yes. If you’re looking to get a robot vacuum already, then this is an excellent choice. It’s not that expensive but it comes with all the features that we need – and yet it’s not expensive at all! This entire set that we shown here is atRM1,588 only with a year of warranty. We can also get up to 2 years of warranty at RM1,788.
I have personally tried some competitor robot vacuums with the same marketing points – but it’s just not as good as what Roidmi has to offer – especially at this price point.
All in all, I’m just very happy with how the Roidmi Eve Plus works. Since its app integration with the Xiaomi Home app is done so well, I can get my mom to use that app and configure it however she wants. Now she can take a break and let the robot do this repetitive work for her.
