One of the most useful features of an ecosystem of smart/IoT products at home is that all can communicate with each other to be easily controlled by the user and complement its functions.
As an example of this, there are Smart TVs with Android TV, which can be linked with Nest devices (like speakers) to receive voice commands from anywhere in the house.
However, in recent weeks, the above described is not working correctly on Sony Smart TVs, according to multiple reports, since they are not responding to Assistant commands from Google Nest or Google Home (1, 2, 3).
Sony Android TV users report that Google Assistant commands through Nest devices are not being received correctly or fulfilled. This problem started to happen suddenly with no apparent explanation.
Why can’t I control Sony Android TV with Google home anymore?
I used to be able to ask my google nest to play a show on netflix or any other platform on my sony android tv and about 3 days ago google assistant tells me netflix cannot be played on android tv… i used to do that every day for the past 2 years…
tv would start up automatically as well and now nothing.. its totally unresponsive to google home commands.Source
Nest mini unable to play a specific Netflix show/movie. Any help???
Hi All,
I have a Sony Bravia, up till very recently I was able to tell Nest Mini to play a show or movie and it would start playing it on my Bravia Android tv with built in chrome cast. For some reason now it would say Ok playing (show) on Netflix on living room tv but nothing happens at all. I restarted everything, made sure all devices are on the same network.Source
While for some users the ability to control their Android TV with Google Nest or Home commands was completely lost, for others a partial or erratic operation remains.
According to reports, some of the functions are still maintained in these cases. But, other specific functions no longer work correctly.
Google Home with Sony Google TV – Soundbar volume control
Hi, I’ve set up my Sony X90J TV to work with my Google Home Mini. All controls work fine such as switching inputs, opening apps, turning on and off etc.
However, when adjusting volume, no matter what volume command I give the Google Home the volume only increases/decreases by 1. This is through my Sony HT-G700 Soundbar.
When I switch to the TV’s built in speakers, volume commands work perfectlySource
Reports indicate that Sony Android TVs are the most affected by these problems. But, there are also reports of Smart TVs from other brands (such as Samsung and Hisense) that also suffer from them.
At the moment, there is no official acknowledgment from Sony or Google on this problem. Affected users can only wait for one of the companies to comment on it.
